When He Awoke, Death Smiled

Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami, Ashok Chakra (P)

One who had stared straight into the eyes of the death. Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami was a man who joined the 9th battalion of the Parachute Regiment. He was one of the best scouts any team can have. He was so sure of his shot that one single shot and the enemy would meet their fate.

He was a complete family man. Whenever he talks with his family he would ask about the new home, and how they are doing. Before his three operations, he had met his daughter and celebrated her birthday.

Operation Khurmur: Pukka Kuch hoga, Yeh Solid Input Hai

On August 21, Captain Dipesh Mehra and his team were deployed to ambush three terrorists near Khurmur Village in north Kashmir’s Handwara district. Captain Dipesh Mehra got shot by the Terrorist who was carrying an AK-47. Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami insisted to go there as he had a strong hunch that they will be able to save their men. Major Kunar agreed and the operation Khurmur started.

Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami asked the vehicle’s driver to switch off the light. As they were moving near them. Terrorists were 20 meters above the same hill. Captain Dipesh Mehra was lying 10 meters away from them. Lance Naik informed Major Kumar that he would blink the flashlight and they would be able to find the location of the terrorists. It was risky however, Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami was confirmed that these trees will protect him.

As predicted by him, Terrorists started firing bullets at him. This leads to the killing of three terrorists right there.

Operation Lidder Panzal: Sir Mujhse Achha Kaun Kar Sakta Hai

He was a good scout that he would not risk anyone before his younger warrior will get a fine share of experience. He had promised that he will himself led that person lead as a scout if someone is better than him.

On 26 August, five Pakistani Terrorists have infiltrated in Uri Sector. One terrorist was killed by 35 Rashtriya Rifles. However, four terrorists managed to escape using their evasive technique. Their team used a searcher mark drone to track terrorists in the Shamshabri area which gave the perfect view of the terrorists. Terrorists had moved towards the crevasses and the boulders.

They were 4 km away from the last known location of the terrorists as identified by Searcher Mark II Drone. Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami used his wisdom to track down the trail. He was sure about the footprints that were vaguely seen. He was the epitome of experience that he had saved the whole team from ambush by finding the vague trail of terrorists.

Lance Naik Goswami walked ahead and found the terrorist. There was a firefight. Lance Naik Goswami informed that four terrorists were there and one was injured. One of the soldiers fired a rocket-propelled grenade which cleared the outside area. Two terrorists came outside in desperation. Lance Naik Goswami got the chance and two-shot were fired. He was that confident about his skill. After this on the 27th of August, Lance Naik Goswami and his men began the heavy search operation. After some time three men heard the gunfire shot by the Lance Naik Goswami. He had spotted the terrorists hiding behind the boulder.

There was only one terrorist who was alive. Lance Naik Goswami coaxed him to surrender. In this operation, three terrorists were killed and one was surrendered.

Operation Sutsalyar: It was He Who Let Death Have him

Operation Sutsalayar began on 2 September, His team went to the Sutsalyar forests of Kupawara one of the Kasmir’s densest forests. Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami detected the presence of four Terrorists. Lance Naik Goswami Shouted to identify the terrorists. Lance Naik Goswami and his team were faced with the fire of bullets.

After this one of the four terrorists was shot by Lance Naik Goswami which only injured him. Terrorists fired from an under-barrel grenade launcher which leads to injuring the soldier. Lance Naik Goswami and his buddy Havildar Mahender Singh moved toward the two soldiers. However, they faced a volley of bullets which leads to the paralyzing of Havildar Mahender Singh.

He let his weapon on burst mode and left his cover furiously shooting at terrorists. He was shot by two bullets but he managed to kill 2 terrorists before he led down his gun. Major Kumar was the one who was there with Lance Naik Goswami in his last time. It was rightly said. He was the one who let his death overcome him.
