Tripura assembly polls: Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee on 2-day visit to state
Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will hit the campaign trail in Tripura on Monday.
A party is required at least 31 seats to form government in the state.
“TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will be on a two-day visit to Tripura. On Monday they would visit the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple. On Tuesday, they are scheduled to join a road show rally,” said a senior TMC leader.

On Sunday, the TMC released its poll manifesto for the northeastern state which goes into polls on February 16.
Containing 42 promises, the party’s poll manifesto stressed on creating two lakh jobs in five years, promoting private investment, increasing economic growth, holding business summits, setting up 2,000 new micro, small and medium enterprises annually, another 1,200 new self-help groups annually to ensure 50,000 functional SHGs in the next five years and providing ₹1,000 to 1 lakh to unemployed youth every year, among others.
The TMC released its first list of 22 candidates on January 29 for the upcoming assembly polls.
Counting will be held on March 2. The TMC is contesting in only 28 of the 60 seats in the assembly.
Union home minister Amit Shah is also expected to address two election rallies in Khowai district, and Santirbazar and join a road show in Agartala city on Monday.
The BJP came to power in Tripura in alliance with the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) in 2018, ending 25 years of the CPI (M) rule in the state.
