The Y20 India Summit — a part of the G20 summit– was organised by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

“Never say bechara (helpless) to a girl. Never say no to yourself,” she said while sharing her journey in sports with students.

The event was organised at the Kalam Centre building on the KGMU campus.

She narrated how she became a para-badminton athlete after defeating every odd. “Initially when my coach approached me outside a mall, I could not give a thought. But when at school, I was asked not to participate in sports due to my physical condition, that very moment, I thought I have to prove myself,” she said.

“Her speech motivated students who were listening to every word she said about her journey and her struggle,” said Dr Ashish Kumar, HoD sports medicine at the KGMU.

Dr RN Srivastava dean student welfare and senior faculty coordinated the event.

Palak said she stayed for training in Lucknow during the pandemic and made sure she practiced despite changing climate during summer and monsoon. Badminton is an indoor game but she played on outdoor court too during pandemic, just to keep practice going on, she said.
